A Very Short Story About Flying
Before even thinking to enroll in this curse, let me tell you a very short story, from my first paragliding experience, in New Zealand. A couple of years ago I was traveling in the Southern Island and eventually landed in Christchurch. It's a common destination for outdoor sports and paragliding is one of the most popular. After I checked in at a motel and a short research, I booked a tandem flight for the next day, at noon.
I came at the meeting point 15 minutes earlier, looking for the van which was supposed to take me to Sumner, a small village 30km away from Christchurch. There were quite a few shiny vans at that point, but none with the logo of my paragliding tour provider. At 12 PM sharp I saw a somehow wretched car, with the signs of the company I was expecting, showing up. It wasn't in the best shape, so to speak. I got in, started to chat with the driver, who was also the paragliding instructor, and in a few minutes we found some common ground.
In the next 15 minutes I shared my time between chatting with that guy and glimpsing to the back of the van, where what I thought to be the paragliding equipment was thrown somehow randomly. The looks of the cars, the paragliding equipment, the bags in the back of the van, everything was conspiring to give me a very powerful sensation of, you, know, fear. At some point, I felt I couldn't take it anymore and and asked:
- Isn't thins thing, you, know, dangerous?
The guy looked at me for a few seconds, did some sort of a grimace and then answered in one breathe:
- You know, flying is pretty safe. It's the crashing that may be dangerous.
I relaxed in an second. Literally. The flight was amazing and I had a thrilling experience.

I'm here to teach you to fly and to show you how not to crash. Or, if you do crash, to show you how to recover.
That's what Goal Setting 101 is all about.
Looking forward to fly together :)
